Behind the viral claims are real plant compounds with real effects, but also real limits. Oregano oil’s carvacrol and thymol, uva ursi’s arbutin, and various essential oils can inhibit microbes under controlled conditions. Yet those lab results don’t automatically translate into safe, effective cures in complex, vulnerable human bodies. The doses that look impressive in experiments can be harsh on the gut, kidneys, or liver, and may dangerously interact with common medications.
Relying on herbs alone can delay accurate diagnosis while infections spread silently. A UTI that “seems better” with natural remedies can escalate into a kidney infection; a misidentified parasite can go untreated while symptoms worsen. Herbs are best used as supportive tools, not miracle substitutes—woven into a plan that includes proper testing, evidence-based treatment, and the unexciting foundations of health: clean water, sanitation, nutrition, and prompt medical care when something feels wrong.
