Restaurants do have their reasons: razor-thin margins, loss-leader kids’ meals, chaos when policies aren’t consistent. Fine. Charge more. Rename it “light bites.” Add an upcharge so the kitchen doesn’t revolt. But don’t act like wanting less food, cheaper food, or simpler food is embarrassing. Adulthood is already expensive and exhausting. If a six-dollar plate of nuggets gets someone through a bad day, maybe the grown-up move is to just let them order it.
