For a decade, we had struggled with childlessness. When my husband proposed adopting four-year-old twins, I hesitated, overwhelmed by the responsibility. He seemed certain. He researched the process, prepared their bedrooms, and talked eagerly about becoming a father. His enthusiasm helped me move beyond my fears. Once the children arrived, I threw myself into caring for them, finding purpose amid the toys, laughter, and exhausting adjustments of our first weeks together.
Then I heard him speaking privately, and the confidence I had placed in him began to unravel. His words made me wonder whether he had concealed something important about his reasons for adopting. I had questions, not answers, but I could no longer dismiss the possibility that he had misled me. Whatever came next, two young children now depended on us. I knew I needed to confront him, even if his explanation changed the future I had imagined forever.
