Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are back together on the set of a new *Mummy* film, bringing familiar faces to a franchise audiences first embraced in 1999. Photographed in costume in London on October 14, 2026, the actors were seen between scenes as production continued. Fraser, 57, is returning as adventurer Rick O’Connell, while Weisz reprises her role as Evelyn. The photographs have renewed interest in their screen partnership and in Fraser’s career, which has included action films, demanding dramatic performances, and a celebrated Academy Award win.
Fraser’s performances in *George of the Jungle* and the original *The Mummy* helped establish him as a leading actor during the late 1990s. However, the physical demands of his action roles accumulated over time. In a 2018 GQ interview, he discussed injuries, operations, and almost seven years of intermittent hospital treatment. He also spoke about losing his mother in 2016. These experiences help explain some of the challenges behind a period when he was less prominent in major Hollywood productions, although he continued working in film and television.
A significant career milestone followed with Darren Aronofsky’s *The Whale*. Fraser portrayed Charlie, a reclusive English teacher, in a performance that combined extensive physical characterization with an emotionally demanding story. His work earned the Academy Award for Actor in a Leading Role in March 2023. The recognition introduced some viewers to his dramatic range while reminding longtime admirers of the abilities he had demonstrated throughout his career. It also gave his return to leading roles a significance that extended beyond nostalgia for his earlier films.
