Stink bugs can become a frustrating problem in the fall, slipping through tiny gaps around windows, doors, siding and chimneys before hiding inside homes for the winter. They can also release a strong, unpleasant odor when disturbed.
One simple household mixture you can try uses just three ingredients: 2 cups of hot water, 1 cup of distilled vinegar and ½ cup of dish soap. Mix them in a spray bottle and apply the solution directly to stink bugs or areas where you have noticed them hiding.
Be careful when spraying the mixture on household surfaces, since vinegar and soap can potentially damage or discolor some materials. Testing a small hidden area first is a good idea.
The best way to reduce the problem is to stop the bugs from getting inside. Check around windows, doors, siding, soffits and chimneys for small cracks or openings and seal them before colder weather arrives.
